Felling of a mature pine tree in the rear garden, followed by consideration of replacement planting.

Full Proposal

It is proposed to fell and remove the mature pine tree located towards the rear of the garden. The tree is estimated to be approximately 12?14 metres in height, with an estimated diameter at breast height (DBH) of approximately 300?350 mm. The tree has developed a pronounced and asymmetric lean, with the main stem and crown extending significantly from the vertical. Its position within a confined rear garden means that the tree is surrounded by garden structures, hardstanding, seating areas and other established vegetation, resulting in a relatively constrained environment in the event of branch or whole-tree failure. The tree's current form and pronounced lean increase the arboricultural concern regarding its structural stability, particularly during periods of high winds or adverse weather conditions. Given its size, position and proximity to areas regularly used by the occupants and visitors, any significant failure could result in damage to property and/or injury to persons. The proposed removal is considered appropriate on arboricultural and safety grounds. Retention would require ongoing monitoring and management, while removal would eliminate the structural risk associated with the existing tree and its current position. The tree will be removed by a suitably qualified and experienced tree contractor using appropriate sectional dismantling techniques. The works will be carried out carefully to minimise disturbance or damage to the surrounding garden, retained vegetation, boundary structures and neighbouring property. Following removal, consideration will be given to replacement planting with a suitably sized and appropriately located tree or trees of a species and form compatible with the character of the conservation area. Replacement planting would provide continued arboricultural, visual and biodiversity value while avoiding the spatial and structural constraints associated with the existing tree.
